Designed to Last....Why Bala Consulting Engineers Trust IPR International
When a full service engineering firm that has a division specializing in “Mission
Critical IT Consulting, specifically designed to reduce the risk of Mission
Critical computing”, decides they want help protecting their own mission critical
data, the company that they turn to has some pretty high standards to meet.
Bala Consulting Engineers, a 25 year old engineering firm that has projects
around the globe, is a firm that some of the largest companies in the world
have turned to for engineering designs, consulting expertise, due diligence
and contract administration support, as well as master planning, feasibility
and energy analysis.
Bala Consulting Engineers turned to IPR International. Faced with the challenge
of retaining all of their designs and records for long periods of time, Bruce
Stratten, Director of Information Systems for Bala Consulting Engineers spent
much of his time managing the way in which this information was stored. Bala
management insists on retaining all designs and work papers for each project,
so that they may be referred to in the future, if additional design work needs
to be done. Eventually, Bruce realized that he was being challenged to remain
focused on his core responsibilities of supporting a growing field of engineers,
and projects around the world, because of the explosive growth of his company’s
valuable information. Bruce needed a solution that would guarantee the security
of his firm’s designs, minimize the amount of space required for his IT infrastructure,
and cut costs all at the same time.
IPR engineers, working with Bruce and his team, analyzed Bala’s data growth,
their needs and concerns, and deployed IPR’s DataGuardian File System Archiving solution
to accomplish all of the goals set forth by Bruce. With DataGuardian File
System Archiving, Bala Consulting had the security and confidence of knowing
that IPR would maintain two complete copies of their data, on spinning disks
in geographically separated Data Centers. Furthermore, through the use of IPR’s
state of the art compression techniques, Bala Consulting was able to drastically
reduce the storage requirements for their designs, all while reducing the cost
of maintaining their IT infrastructure.
Today Bruce takes pride in knowing that his data is secure, and the engineering
team is able to focus on their core responsibilities. To put in Bruce’s terms,
“We wanted IT to support the core business functions of designing and consulting
on large projects, but we were getting bogged down with too much data to manage.
Outsourcing those IT functions that are necessary, but are not core to what
we do here made sense. IPR can manage my archive better than I can, and that
frees up my team to focus on projects that will help us serve our clients and
expand our business. For us to build and support the infrastructure to maintain
two live copies of our data, in two different sites, would have been cost prohibitive.
We are leveraging the experience, expertise and facilities of IPR to our advantage.
Works for me!”
